Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin, D.C.

A sneak peak at the gorgeous and bountiful cherry blossoms in D.C. The first 3000 cherry blossom trees around the Tidal Basin were given to Washington D.C. in 1912 by the Mayor of Tokyo, Yukio Ozaki. They were given as a gift to honor the friendship between Japan and the U.S. In 1965 3,800 more trees were given to the U.S. from Japan and were accepted by the then First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson. To see these trees in all their glory is quite an experience unparalleled anywhere else. A true indication of spring, it is a cause for celebration! A few more photos to come shortly.
